We all keep up to date with yearly first aid training and pride ourselves in being well prepared for any medical emergency we may be faced with. This year we had a more intense training course which lasted a full day. This covered basic life support training for all the team, CPR training and also full training on how to use the Defibrillator.
SmileLux visit to Bletchley Park
The SmileLux Team had a wonderful day out at Bletchley Park earlier this week. It was absolutely fascinating to visit this once top-secret home of the World War Two Codebreakers. Such amazing history on our doorstep here in Milton Keynes! It was a beautiful sunny day and a stunning location. We had a great day!
As with everything in life, the world of Orthodontics is also changing all the time and moving forward with new age technology to improve treatment results and reduce treatment time.
What is Digital Orthodontics?
Digital technology has had a significant impact into everyone’s life over the last two decades. It began with the introduction and sophistication of mobile phones and has since then had a positive impact on medical diagnosis and teaching tools. Treatment efficiency and surgical techniques have also improved significantly.
Dental practices introduced digital technology computerized scheduling in 1974. It has since then grown into all areas of dentistry including dental treatments and treatment planning.
Orthodontists are now using digital technology every day within their practices to improve clinical results in the following ways:
- The use of a digital scanner to replace traditional moulds/impressions of the teeth.
- Digital treatment simulations to show predicted end results prior to orthodontic treatment commencing.
- The ability to convert digital technology into diagnostic models to help patients decide on the best option for them.
- Custom made appliances such as lingual brackets that are placed behind the teeth to help assure optimum comfort during treatment.
- Special robotically bent archwires to get the best clinical outcome that is microscopically possible and reduce the latter stage of treatment time.
It is also becoming possible to remotely monitor and control treatment without the need to see the orthodontist as frequently.
We pride ourselves on keeping up to date with all modern technology here at SmileLux in Milton Keynes. To find out more about how we can help transform your smile, contact a member of the SmileLux team today on 01908 398068.
Huge congratulations to our specialist orthodontist Dr Sunil Hirani for recently passing his World Society of Lingual Orthodontics (WSLO) exam.
Dr Hirani has been busy preparing for this prestigious qualification. The majority of specialists sitting the examination have practised lingual orthodontics for a minimum of 10 years.
We are extremely proud that Dr Hirani has achieved this accreditation. He is currently the only consultant-trained specialist orthodontist in the UK to hold this qualification. An expert panel of lingual examiners from around the world assessed his cases, considering difficulty, standard of records, treatment planning skills, efficiency of treatment, outcome, cephalometric tracings and post-treatment stability. As of 2019, only 246 individuals have passed this exam worldwide so it’s a huge achievement.
The examination took place at the 8th WSLO Congress in Barcelona, Spain. Dr Hirani was also an invited speaker and gave a presentation on Lingual lever arm mechanics and the current evidence. This was extremely well received.
Lingual braces are braces that are fixed to the back of your teeth so they are very discreet and almost invisible. We are very fortunate that we are able to offer this treatment to our patients here at SmileLux under the skilled and expert guidance of Dr Hirani. Dr Hirani is also the chairman of the British Lingual Orthodontic Society (BLOS).
If you would like to find out more about lingual brace treatment please contact SmileLux on 01908 398068.
How exciting to receive this on our doorstep on Friday! So proud to announce that Dr Sunil Hirani is a finalist at the Aesthetic Dentistry Awards this year. The award ceremony will take place on 22nd March 2019. Wishing Dr Hirani the best of luck for this prestigious award.
It was our huge pleasure to host Charlie Laity from 3Shape for our recent in-house training. Their support is invaluable and the scanner is second to none.
We are looking forward to putting our new skills into practice!
Many patients worry about having impressions or moulds taken of their teeth as they can be uncomfortable, especially for people with a strong gag reflex. Technology is changing all the time and here at SmileLux in Milton Keynes we like to keep up to date with new techniques that can not only improve the clinical results we achieve, but also the comfort for patients. We now scan the teeth using a 3D digital scanner which is 100% accurate and enables us to treatment plan more effectively.
Our lovely patient Adele got married recently and was absolutely rocking her ceramic braces! She has kindly let us have a photo to share.

“Dear Smilelux, Brilliant result after years of my teeth looking bad, big gaps and crooked. I was always afraid of going to the dentist but all the staff at Smilelux always made me feel relaxed they were there for me. The atmosphere at Smilelux is very relaxed and the decor is my favourite colour purple. So for the whole of my treatment it was a good experience with a brilliant result. Love Karen.”
Many people opt for crowns or veneers to close a gap between their front teeth without even thinking about the option of orthodontic treatment. Both crowns and veneers involve filing down natural healthy tooth tissue which can result in future treatment being required for the teeth and also life long maintenance. It can also make the teeth look much larger than they should. Both crowns and veneers are non-reversible and once they have been filed down, the damage can not be reversed. Orthodontic treatment can close spaces without damaging the teeth in any way. It also means after a year or two of treatment, there is no further orthodontic work required aside from wearing retainers to hold the teeth in their new position.
If you have a large gap that you are conscious of, contact a member of our friendly team today on 01908 398068. We offer a range of braces in Milton Keynes to suit every lifestyle and budget with flexible payment options designed to help make treatment more affordable.
