Your orthodontic journey doesn’t end after your appliance is removed - and we’re still here to help you! To keep your smile straight and healthy, it’s important to follow our aftercare guidelines.
What happens after my braces are removed?
Your teeth may be a bit sensitive in the days and weeks following braces removal. This is because the enamel at the centre of your teeth isn’t used to being exposed anymore. Therefore, we recommend slowly easing back into cold, hot and crunchy foods for your comfort.
Do I need to wear my retainer?
Absolutely! Retainers are essential to keep your new smile in alignment. After your orthodontic appliance is removed, Dr Hirani will give you customised retainers. This might be a fixed retainer, removable retainer or both. You should wear your retainers as instructed as this will be bespoke to your individual case.
Teeth whitening after orthodontic treatment
Straightening your teeth is just one of the ways we can enhance your smile! Whitening treatment can be a wonderful way to achieve a perfect, glowing look. Because your teeth will be a bit sensitive after braces removal, we recommend to wait a month or so before whitening treatment.
Dental care after orthodontic treatment
After your braces are removed, it is important to schedule a dental exam and cleaning. We can ensure there are no issues, and get rid of any tartar that may have built up around your brackets.
You should also floss once a day and brush your teeth after every meal. It is also important to clean your retainer per your Specialist Orthodontist’s instructions.
